Toast and Bacon

I needed a laugh and who better to supply that then Jim Gaffigan. Many of you have seen this clip but can we ever really get sick of bacon?

Not only is this a classic Heywood Banks song but this is done by a school in Wisconsin. I'm sure glad the cheeseheads have nothing better to do during the winter.

Social Styles

Through work I started a social styles coarse. It's given to us so we can learn what our social style is, along with how to recognise other social styles that we work with. If we can recognize other peoples styles then we can better adapt to them.

There are four different social styles: Analytical, Amiable, Driving and Expressive.

Most of us have fractions of all of these in our personality but lean towards one or two.

So what social styles am I? I came out as an Expressive with Driver tendencies. You can agree or disagree but my co workers are the ones that rated me.

Luckily, I apparently have a lot of self awareness that helps me be more versatile in the workplace.

Read below at the different styles to see if you agree with my outcome and maybe find out where you all fall.

Analyticals value facts above all, and may appear uncommunicative, cool and independent. They have a strong time discipline coupled with a slow pace to action. They value accuracy, competency and logic over opinions, often avoiding risk in favor of cautious, deliberate decisions. Analyticals are usually cooperative, providing they have some freedom to organize their own efforts. Power often arises suspicion in Analyticals, but if they come to see it as necessary for achieving goals and objectives, they may seek power themselves. In relationships, Analyticals are initially more careful and reserved, but once trust is earned they can become dedicated and loyal.

Amiables are people-oriented, and care more about close relationships than results or influence. They usually appear warm, friendly and cooperative. Amiables tend to move slowly with a low time discipline, minimizing risk and often using personal opinions to arrive at decisions. Belonging to a group is a primary need, and Amiables may make every effort to gain acceptance. They typically seek to uncover common ground, preferring to achieve objectives through understanding and mutual respect rather than force and authority. When managed by force without relationship, Amiables appear to cooperate initially but will likely lack commitment to the objectives and may later resist implementation.

Expressives are motivated by recognition, approval and prestige. They tend to appear communicative and approachable, often sharing their feelings and thoughts. They move quickly, continually excited about the next big idea, but they often don’t commit to specific plans or see things through to completion. Expressives enjoy taking risks. When making decisions, they tend to place more stock in the opinions of prominent or successful people than in logic or research. Though they consider relationships important, the Expressive’s competitive nature leads them to seek quieter friends who are supportive of their dreams and ideas, often making relationships shallow or short-lived.

Driving styles want to know the estimated outcome of each option. They are willing to accept risks, but want to move quickly and have the final say. In relationships, they may appear uncommunicative, independent and competitive. Driving styles tend to focus on efficiency or productivity rather than devoting time and attention to casual relationships. They seldom see a need to share personal motives or feelings. Driving styles are results-oriented, tending to initiate action and give clear direction. They seek control over their environment.

Denver Trip August 09

This past weekend we went to Denver. It was a fun weekend a couple of the highlights were a tour of the Coors brewery in Golden Colorado and seeing a Rockies game.

This is where all the beer goodness is created!!!
Don't I look excited as I'm entering to first room to taste the fresh beer? It doesn't get any better, really it doesn't!!

If you thought I was somehow faking my brewery tour. I can't fake my existence in front of the brewery.

Golden Colorado is the home of the Colorado School of Mines. What are they know for besides ugh... turning out more engineers? It's their symbol on the side of the mountain. Its a M that stands for Mining. All I have to say is our M is BIGGER!!! Go Pioneers!!!

Here's a view from inside beautiful Coors field.
Overall, it was fun trip!!!

Camping in August

A couple of weeks ago I went camping with some coworkers and friends. We all had a good time and it was great to get away for the weekend.

Here's part of the group that was there. Between the everyone in their 50's and everyone in their 20's the average age around the campfire was about 40.

My Injury

Most of you know that I wrecked my mountain bike at the beginning of August. I got a bunch of road rash and couldn't walk very well for a couple of weeks. I had a couple of great hikes planned but I couldn't walk so... I couldn't go... so there aren't any sweat pictures for you all, Sorry. I could post some pictures of me after my accident but I'm not going to subject you all to that. You'll be happy to know that I'm almost back 100%. Tonight, three weeks later, I went back out on the trail that I wrecked on for the first time. It was great to get back out!

Bar D Ranch

The Bar D ranch is one of those "old time" western dinner and a show that are done in various places around the west. This particular one is in Durango. One weekend in July I went with a group. I've seen it before but it is still entertaining.

Here's part of the crew.

The entertainment!!!

National High School Finals Rodeo

While the National High School Finals Rodeo was in town I had to go experience the fun one night. Now that it has made the news for animal abuse here are some pics from the night I went.
